Many constituents have contacted me to share their deep concern over the reports of gatherings at Downing Street during the pandemic.

I completely understand the frustration of all those of us who followed the rules.

It is right that the Prime Minister has asked for an investigation to take place into the allegations of gatherings in Downing Street. The investigations are being led by Sue Grey, Second Permanent Secretary at the Cabinet Office and Department for Levelling Up, and former Director General of Propriety and Ethics.

The terms of reference for these investigations have been published, and this week in Parliament it was clarified that these do indeed include in scope investigating the alleged gatherings on the 15th and 20th May 2020.

Today, I was in the Chamber to hear the Prime Minister confirm that he attended the gathering on 20th May 2020.

I am extremely disappointed at this clear lapse in judgement. I recognise his apology, and will await the outcome of the investigation being led by Sue Grey, which the Prime Minister has rightly said he will take responsibility for. The Government has promised to update Parliament as developments occur, and I will continue to follow these closely.

Let me be clear: I do not in any way support anyone blatantly breaking the Covid rules, which were put in place to protect us all, and which most of us followed throughout the pandemic.

My unwavering commitment as Southport's Member of Parliament is to this town and to those who live here. I will always support those who follow the rules and keep us all safe.

Should be the Metropolitan Police investigating this disgraceful excuse for a Prime Minister, not one of his own.

He is trying to play the odds.

I don't want Johnson gone for this. I want him gone for years of incompetence , corruption and arrogance.

Wouldn't that be a problem for the Police, they monitor who is there all the time and observe them.

If there was an illegal gathering organised by Martin Reynolds then why did they ignore it at the time?

If Boris organised this "event" or party then he deserves to go, no if's no but's.

It was quite a while ago, maybe someone other than the Police is needed?
