Good afternoon from the North Sefton Neighbourhood Team at Southport Police Station, on day 5 of ‘NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICING WEEK’.

Thanks to all who have followed, liked and commented on our posts this week. Please continue to share our posts to make local residents aware of the work that the Police Offices and PCSO’s stationed at Southport do on a daily basis.

Yesterday we had uniformed officers out on foot patrol in Dukes ward (Southport Town Centre), Kew, Cambridge and Meols wards and also in Formby as well as officers on mobile patrol in Formby and across the wider area.

During their foot patrols PCSO’s made follow up visits to victims of crime in Kew, Birkdale, Churchtown and Marshside, responded to a report of a man seen looking into cars and checked CCTV of the offender, and assisted one of our Residential Social Landlords with eviction of a tenant. They also conducted some stop checks around the town centre, which generated more intelligence reports and made a welfare visit to the home of an elderly lady after concerns for her well-being were raised by staff of a town centre store.

PCSO’s Newman and Neves spent an hour in a town centre store to help raise awareness of fraud, by offering customers copies of the ‘Think Jessica – Don’t Fall For a Scam’ booklet. We distribute copies of this booklet at community engagement events, or you can collect a copy from the Enquiries Office at Southport Police Station during opening hours of the Enquiry Office. You can also find out from the Enquiry Officers who the dedicated Police Officer and PCSO is for your street/road.

During mobile patrols, Neighbourhood Police Officers made address enquiries looking for a missing person and a man previously arrested for possession of a lock knife was interviewed at Southport Police Station. Investigations continued into two youths arrested earlier in the week, on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

Constables Jackson and Rowling continued knife crime presentations at Formby High School and will continue on Friday.

Another five intelligence reports were generated from this patrol work on Thursday.

Following one such intelligence report from Neighbourhood Officers, a Southport man was arrested by County Lines Team Officers working in Southport, after being found in possession of a number of wraps of cocaine and £500 in cash. A search of his property then led to the recovery of approximately 500 separate bags of cocaine. The man remains in custody at this time. Another example of teamwork getting results, and the importance of Officers developing actionable intelligence.

Covid has struck, and we lost one Officer to isolation after a positive test, leading to testing for the rest of the team. Despite this, we will carry on today, with the staff we have, and continue to patrol the streets of Southport and Formby. Come on over for a chat if you see us in your area.
