Merseyside’s Deputy Police Commissioner has congratulated and praised the efforts of the Force’s Volunteer Police Cadets as she joined them to mark their passing out ceremony.

Cllr Emily Spurrell was among the dignitaries invited by the Chief Constable Andy Cooke QPM to attend the celebrations at the Bridge Chapel Centre on Heath Road in Garston which saw 57 Cadets being presented with certificates and awards for their contribution over the last year.

They were joined by Deputy Chief Constable Serena Kennedy and the High Sheriff of Merseyside, Mr. Peter Woods DL, as well a number of other senior police officers and more than 200 guests, including the families of the cadets, to hear accounts of the course from cadets, a photographic slideshow and the presentation of certificates to all cadets.

Emily was among the dignitaries given the honour of presenting an award and was delighted to award Cadet Cody Shiers with the Cadet of the Year trophy.

She said: “This was a great opportunity to acknowledge and thank all the volunteer cadets for the time, effort and dedication they have shown by participating in this worthwhile scheme. They are a credit to themselves and their families.

“I congratulate all of them for completing this course and thank them for their fantastic contribution, giving their free time to represent Merseyside Police and already playing their part towards keeping their neighbourhoods safe. Their dedication at such a young age is to be applauded.”

“I hope that in return this programme has rewarded these cadets with valuable knowledge, skills and experience and an opportunity to make a difference in their communities.”

Merseyside Police’s Volunteer Cadet scheme provides an opportunity for young people aged 16 - 18 to get involved with Merseyside Police and learn more about the police service, with insights and visits to different departments, including the dogs and mounted, firearms, forensics and public order training.

It also gives the cadets the opportunity to get involved with fundraising events, local problem solving exercises, high-profile events and team building exercises.
