Formby’s local fire crew have recently become ‘Dementia Friends’ – an initiative by the Alzheimer’s Society to increase awareness of how to support people affected by Dementia. Liz Foggin of the Formby Dementia Action Group held the session to enhance our local fire team’s understanding of the medical condition.
Neil Henry of Formby Fire Station said “both professionally and personally we often encounter people who live with or support someone with dementia. The information session was useful as it equipped us with many practical tips to add to our expertise.”
The Formby Dementia Action Group’s next talk which is available to all members of the general public will be held in the Community Rooms at Formby Fire Station on Saturday 19th October 2019 between 10am and 12 noon. Sally Nicol, who has been the driving force behind establishing the Formby Dementia Action Group will be giving this talk as her last presentation in Formby before she relocates to another part of the country.
Winnie Pickering, another founding member of the Formby Dementia Action Group said “Sally’s talks over the last few years have helped so many people. They provide clarity and understanding in a simple and welcoming format for people seeking more information about the medical condition. As a group we have really appreciated Sally’s drive and commitment to raising the profile of Dementia support in our local community over the last five years. We shall certainly miss Sally’s input but will continue to help the Formby community with our quarterly updates and talks.”
Anyone feeling that either they or someone they know would benefit from coming to our next free event is welcome to come on the 19th October. There is no need to pre-book into the talk as it is open to all and you can simply turn up to the Fire Station’s Community Room on the Saturday morning, but if you wish to find out a bit more about the talk in advance please telephone Liz Foggin on 01704 870404 for more information.
