A West Lancs Council spokesperson said...
As summer turns to autumn we are proud to support Keep Britain Tidy's Great British September Clean, which runs from 11-27 September 2020.
The campaign replaces the Great British Spring Clean which was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
With many restrictions still in place to keep us all safe, a number of changes have been made by Keep Britain Tidy so we can all take part this year.
You will be able to pledge to litter-pick for a chosen amount of time during the campaign through the Council's Environmental Enforcement Team.
You can also organise and register an event through the team for yourself and up to five other people, in line with current government social distancing guidelines which are subject to change.
There will be no option to host or join the type of large public event we have hosted in the past.
Councillor Kev Wilkie, portfolio holder for Street Scene, said: "Staying safe and alert is everyone's priority. Keep Britain Tidy has come up with a great plan to keep us all safe while enjoying a litter pick for our local community."
If you want to organise and register a spring clean event please email environmental.enforcementofficers@westlancs.gov.uk and they will arrange for you to have litter pickers and bin bags in addition to bag pick up points. You will have to provide your own gloves. If you do organise an event please do not attempt to clean up fly-tipped waste. Please report this to the Council online at www.westlancs.gov.uk/flytipping so we can come and investigate prior to clearing them up, we may find evidence that will help us catch those responsible.
