Local people in Sefton are encouraged to support Sefton’s Food banks this festive period and help to back the final theme for the Year of Friendship, ‘Giving’.
This year, Sefton Food banks have launched a Reverse Advent Calendar which encourages more people to give, rather than receive, this Christmas. The calendar gives a suggested donation for each day of the Advent and includes essential items like tinned tomatoes, tinned potatoes, instant mash and tinned fruit as well as toiletries and Christmas items like chocolate, nuts, stuffing and gravy.
Many people can feel the extra pinch during the holidays which means that there is a higher demand for food banks. Residents are encouraged to donate what they can by choosing one of the days on the calendar or as many as they can afford to.
Donations can be made to one of the following donation points:

    • All Sefton Leisure Centres – Bootle Leisure Centre, Meadows Leisure Centre, Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre, Netherton Activity Centre, Litherland Sports Park and Dunes Splash World Leisure Centre, Southport
    • Bootle Town Hall
    • Housing Standards reception on the second floor of Crown Buildings, Eastbank Street, Southport

For more information on how you can support Sefton’s Foodbank Network visit www.southport.foodbank.org.uk or www.southsefton.foodbank.org.uk
Here are the suggested items for each day of the Advent:
    1 December- Tinned Potatoes
    2 December- Tinned Tomatoes
    3 December- Tinned Fruit
    4 December- Instant Mash
    5 December- Long Life Milk
    6 December- Coffee

And let’s not forget why we have these food banks and why they are so needed. Since the tories introduced the Welfare reform act of 2012, 600,000 more children where pushed into ‘relative poverty’ because of the needless austerity measures and swingeing cuts to the welfare system brought in by successive Tory governments.

Try telling people in certain areas of east Africa, South America and parts of Asia that there is "poverty" in the UK and watch their faces.
The definition of "poverty" in this country now seems to be that you don't have BT Sport, there's only the one car in the drive and you only go to the pub at weekends. Get real.

I really can’t believe what I’ve just read. You really do seem like rather a nasty unpleasant individual. A good indicator of what poverty is when you have families unable to feed or cloth their children because of the miserable pittance they receive from the welfare system or are stuck in a job that is minimum wage.

You sound like a labour activist, high jacking every thread with a mix of bleeding heart and hateful bile.

And my guess is you’re a fairly typical tory, completely out of touch with reality, lacking in compassion and empathy and in your case a bit of a thicko too (I assume you meant hijack lol?)

People have such short memories and politicians exploit that.

Remember the MPs expenses scandal? The fat pigs didn't get enough at the trough, so stole money from taxpayers to fund their lavish lifestyles. Then they claim there isn't enough money to pay for a decent welfare system.

HS2 - £80 billion and counting. The last estimate was £30 billion lower. Some people are being paid large sums to come up with these 'projections'!

Trident missile system - £128 billion and counting. It belongs to a bygone era, but is funded by those who think Britannia still rules the waves.

I'm not a Labour activist - just a decent human being who realises what a corrupt mess the 'system' is.

I’d suggest he is more a Marxist or even Communist activist.

I know you probably won’t believe this, but some of those “fat pigs” were actually your beloved Labour MP’s.
