West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has expressed her anger and disappointment with Lancashire County Council’s Development Control Committee’s decision to approve the planning application for Parbold Hill landfill, she said:
“I have supported the Stop Parbold Hill Landfill campaign group from the beginning of this campaign. I asked Lancashire County Council and the Environment Agency to give this application close and detailed scrutiny, and to also take on board the hundreds and hundreds of objections from the local community.
“We thought that once the committee had accepted the need to physically visit the site, this would give committee members a clear view of the range of concerns being raised about highways and traffic, understand the weight of residents’ objections and the lack of justification for development in the greenbelt.
“Disappointingly, a majority of the committee voted through the application for approval and didn’t listen to local people and completely disregarded the area’s value to local residents and visitors.
“This is a terrible outcome for West Lancashire, residents and the campaign group who put so much hard work into fighting this application.”
