Southport MP Damien Moore has announced the local health and care worker he has nominated for this year’s NHS Parliamentary Awards
The accolades, sponsored by Fuji Film, were set up for the NHS’ 70th Birthday to recognise the massive contribution made by the individuals who work in and alongside the NHS.
This year the NHS Parliamentary Awards highlight some amazing examples of care provided from all NHS services, including but not limited to hospitals, community services and local practices.
Damien Moore MP was among over 260 MPs in England who put forward outstanding nominees who have innovated, impressed and made a real difference to how local health and care services provide care for patients.
As chosen by the MP, NHS Southport and Formby Clinical Commissioning Group Chief Officer Fiona Taylor is now the official nominee representing the Southport constituency in the national competition.
Fiona has been nominated for the leadership she has shown in fostering innovative and patient-centred work around medicines management. This has been particularly significant in the response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has seen the medicines team providing direct support to some of Sefton’s most vulnerable patients, as well as care homes, GP practices and community pharmacies. This work has gained national and regional recognition and some of the best practice developed by the Sefton team to improve patient care has been adopted in other areas.
Southport MP Damien Moore said: “I would like to congratulate Fiona Taylor for being shortlisted in the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2020.
“This year more than ever all those in our health service have gone above and beyond to provide complete care for everyone in our community. The Coronavirus pandemic has shown the determination and bravery of thousands of NHS, care and key workers across Southport and so I’m delighted to be taking part in the NHS Parliamentary Awards as a way of thanking and recognising the people who work in or support those services.
“There have been some tremendous nominations this year and I am delighted to see Fiona recognised on this shortlist.”
Fiona Taylor said: “I am humbled to have been nominated for this award on behalf of the medicines management team and to have been shortlisted amongst the other regional finalists in the national final is an honour.
“It really is an acknowledgement of the innovation and dedication of our medicines team in improving the care of patients, and I pay tribute to every member of the team for the work they do each day to support some of our most vulnerable residents in Sefton.”
Nominees put forward by MPs across England will be featured in The House Magazine.
These regional champions will be judged by a national panel made up of senior clinicians, union leaders, former winners and patient representatives, with the overall winners announced at a special awards ceremony held in Parliament on Wednesday 7 July – the week of the NHS’ birthday.
