After lobbying by MP Damien Moore, the government is making even more money available for Sefton Council to help those affected by Storms Desmond and Eva.

Jake Berry, the Northern Powerhouse minister, has told Damien that over £40,000 will be available to the council. This is in additional to the nearly £30,000 they received to provide complete Council Tax and Business Rate relief to those whose homes and business were uninhabitable during and after the floods.

The two storms in 2015/16 produced record rainfall, and some rivers in Lancashire reached the highest levels ever seen. In response, the Communities and Local Government Department made nearly £60 million available to support local authorities affected by the flooding.

Writing to Damien, Mr. Berry said: 'I wanted to personally inform you that my Department will be making a further sum of £43,539 available to Sefton Council. This sum represents additional expenditure incurred by the authority over and above their initial grant application.'

'This is great news for victims of Storms Desmond and Eva in our area', said Damien. 'I hope Sefton Council will move swiftly to help them.'
