Over 6,600 people in just 8 weeks have become members of this new group on facebook.

Creator Steve Ashcroft had the dream of there being one main source of news for Southport to promote all the good local news websites like qlocal here, eyeonsouthport.co.uk, standupforsouthport.com plus others.

Other news site editors & authors are free to promote their stories on this new facebook group.

The group will also promote news from important local facebook groups like Crimewatch Southport & Surrounding Areas and Make a Change for Botanic Gardens.

The about description of the group should help clarify what this new group is about.

Southport doesn't need yet another news site but it does need one that puts a lot of news in just the one place.

There's not much Southport specific news on this FB group. Mainly national stories that apply to all towns. IE energy costs going up etc. Plenty of planted Trolls slagging off the government and twisting every story into an anti tory rant; which makes it all a yawn.

Well Councillor, I dont care whether they are praising the government or not. My point is there is very little Southport specific news, so you dont learn anything new about the town - just recycled national news that applies everywhere. Just brings out the troll bile. If that's your thing which it sounds like it is then go for it. If you put lipstick on a pig, its still a pig.
