He was one of the area's best known photographers and following his untimely death in summer Martyn Snape's memory will live on later this month with a special tribute to him at a weekend event in Burscough.

His work will take pride of place in the latest in the series of very popular historical exhibitions being staged by Michael Dawson and friends at the Stanley Club.

'Images of Burscough and Surrounding Areas', part of 'Images of Burscough' - a voluntary community group which started in 2010 - is holding its biggest ever two day exhibition on 19th/20th October from 10 - 5pm.

Admission is free, with a large car park to the rear with the Mayor of West Lancs. invited to open the event.

Over the weekend other local groups will be attending with their own displays; Paul Smith's Ormskirk Museum, Richard Houghton of Lathom & Burscough Military Heritage Society with a display of local servicemen, Ormskirk & District Family History Society and Alan Barrow with the 'WW2 Airmen of West Lancashire; Alan has asked for anyone with photos of airmen to bring them along on the day.

The exhibition will be feature 700+ photographs, many new ones to the exhibition and large variety of local memorabilia including the former Naval Air Station, HMS Ringtail.

Many old local cine films will be playing on a large screen in the hall during the exhibition which also covers Rufford, Lathom, Newburgh, Parbold, Scarisbrick and Ormskirk.

There's a stall selling various local photographic books, mounted prints, calendars and various other gifts to help raise money for our group, while free samples of Lemon Slab cake and Gingerbread will be available along with tea and coffee.

To try and attract the younger generation with their parents, Clare from 'Amy's Amazing Stories' will be in attendance with a whole range of children's books to buy - she's responsible for the popular 'Burscough Find A Book' craze which involves the community in hiding books around the village for children to find - lots of books hidden around the exhibition over the weekend.

Another popular craze with children at the moment is 'Burscough Rocks Hide and Seek' and again there will be lots of Halloween decorated rocks to find.

Mike's asking folk with any old local photos related to the area to bring them along - he'll have a laptop and scanner set up to copy any photos there and then.

This year's event is being dedicated to Martyn Snape who passed away in June. He was widely known around the community as the photographer for the 'Champion' freesheets and he was a frequent visitor to the exhibitions. There will be a display board showing a selection of Martyn's stunning photography to welcome visitors to the exhibition kindly supplied by Martyn's family.
