A Southport day centre for people living with dementia staged a special event this week to say thank you to the carers of the people who attend the service.[/FONT]
Brookdale Resource Centre in Ainsdale welcomed more than 50 people to a strawberry tea party at its Sandbrook Way premises which spilled out into its attractive gardens, thanks to the good weather.
Guests were able to choose from a wide variety of ‘berry’ tasty Strawberry-themed cakes and desserts.
And while they enjoyed these sweet sensations entertainment was provided by Mike Palmer - alias the Lounge Singer - who presented his normal varied repertoire of tuneful musical memories.
Staff at the centre - run by Sefton’s leading adult social care provider, New Directions - organised the event to link in with Carers Week, the national campaign which recognises the contribution made by carers to families and communities.
Assistant Service Manager, Vicky Parkinson, commented: “Today’s party was our way of saying a big thank you to the family members and friends who do such a fantastic job of caring for the people who attend Brookdale when they’re at home.
“The event was a great success - helped by the good weather - and we’ve had lots of positive feedback from people who attended.
“The afternoon also enabled us to show our support for the estimated 6.5 million people across the UK who care for a member of their family or a friend on an ongoing basis,” added Vicky.
Brookdale Resource Centre plays an important role in supporting carers of people living with dementia by enabling them to have an important respite break.
People who attend the service enjoy a wide range of activities including arts and crafts, sensory stimulation, music and reminiscence therapies and frequent special events.
