Even 30% takeup, a figure achieved elsewhere thanks to really good bike infrastructure, is well worth having. Not only getting a third of all cars off the roads, but reducing CO2 by a similar amount. And let's not forget the health benefits to the population, which in turn lightens the load on the NHS - so wins all round!
Tell you what? Let's have some fun. Use the cycle lanes, but in the opposite sense. Go down on the right hand lane and up on the left one, especially at night - and have your very bright head lights full on.

Yet again you reveal your inept attitude to providing accurate facts.
Electric bicycles are limited to assistance being provided up to 15.5mph, otherwise they come under the equivalent of mopeds and have to be taxed and registered.

We are now down to what is theoretically possible, there are many things theoretically possible, strangely contact with reality is very, very, different.
Wake up please, we live in a very linear town, with very few through routes, negligible industry, but many commuters leaving town for work purposes, the only damn thing you can think of is a blasted bike, the town has a very high percentage of elderly, many of whom will not go anywhere near a bike, what do you propose for the many who simply can't make use of a bike, even if you managed to ban cars entirely, they still couldn't use a bike.
You babble on about life style etc; you sell and fit smoky, stinky wood burning stoves, you confess that your work vehicles are not the most up to date low emission vehicles, I do fully understand that replacing them with the newest is not economically viable, but that then gives you no right to condemn or criticise others, just because you bimble around on a bike now and then, doesn't make you an environmental champion or some sort of paragon.
Frankly taken all round I would hazard a guess that my lifestyle is as environmentally clean as yours, just I don't shout about it, have no wish to impose my views on others.

A) If you read my post, you'll find I stated that 30% is the highest practical takeup figure for bike usage I envisaged. In other words, I'd expect 70% of the population will never want/or be able to, switch to a bike.
B) I referred specifically to cars, and wasn't criticising other local business users for running fossil-fuelled commercial vehicles.
C) I 'bimble' around 4,000km per year on the bike, which if I did same in a petrol or diesel car, would equate to a fair tonnage of additional CO2.

I’ve taken the decision that I will no longer engage with bigoted idiot on this site. If you read his posts, you will notice that he just repeats himself, time after time after time. He refuses to accept that anyone else should have an opinion if it does not agree with his. His latest idea that a 30% uptake in cycling would equate to a similar 30% reduction in car use highlights just how deluded and out of touch he is. After all, how many bikes do you see on our roads with up to seven seats?

Many people have opinions which they stick to, the problem is not them but the people that cannot see or cannot accept others opinions.
How many bikes do you see with spare seats?

It's not worth it he takes absolutely NO notice of others if it is not on his AGENDA. When all this started with the "speed humps" appearing on main routes I asked him whether he had ever travelled in the back of an ambulance with serious injuries ie broken limbs. I have and you feel every little bump and it is excruciating.
It must be about 15 years ago and still waiting for his reply, obviously he has no answer other than continue with the same hackneyed diatribe he perpetually rolls out. (I've put some big words in to baffle him as he only uses short ones like bike)

Strangely enough not that many, can't imagine why.

Speed humps were the Govts idea, as they insisted humps must be installed wherever a 20mph limit was introduced.....You'll be pleased to hear, that the requirement for humps as a mandatory part of any 20mph scheme was discontinued some time ago. As a result, Local Authorities are now free to bring in 20mph schemes without the need for expensive speed humps.

How many cars do you see with seven seats occupied?
Fact remains, that 30% less people on bikes would equal 30% more cars. Unless of course, those ex-cyclists decided to share cars, lol!

You seem to have overlooked taxis that are capable of carrying that number or more passengers - regular airport runs, for example.

True....I also overlooked parents who have large families and run people carriers.

Erm, , from literally 10 minutes earlier, from post #194 on the Immigration thread:

Again, as previously exampled on the Coal Collecting Southport Beach. thread, your use of the Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) emoji is actually and unintentionally aimed at your own words and yourself!
Again, as I asked you on the Bedtime reading material on cycle lanes in Southport thread: Are there multiple people using your forum account?
